Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” – Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail

Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day, celebrated on every third Monday in January. His birthday is actually on the 15th of January, but we celebrate his legacy, his faith, his wisdom, his integrity, and his will to stand firm on the ground he never shied away from.

For some of those of you who may know me, MLK Jr.’s quote enlisted above resonates deeply with me. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Without going too deeply to take the spotlight away from this great man it is crucial and vital to know that any injustice can cause harm and damage everywhere; it damages the actual form, definition, and principle of justice. The justice system is brutally flawed and brutally wrong. And it’s only getting worse. “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” And it couldn’t be more true.
