Italian Article of the Day

Italian Article of the Day:

Came across an interesting article… The famous Leaning Tower of Pisa sitting at 58 meters tall and at 8 stories has shifted an amazing 1.57 inches. It took 200 years to build… Towers shifting is unheard of to even begin with so reading up on this was pretty darn interesting. Located in Tuscany, northern Italy, engineers used methods such as lead counterweights and the removal of soil to try to straighten the Bell Tower. 28 years later they managed to shift it 4 centimeters however the overall structural health is in question. It currently leans over on the south side but does pose a risk due to its nature. It gathers well over one million tourists a year! The tower weighs roughly 14,500 tons and has withstood multiple earthquakes. Read more about it here, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6418261/amp/The-not-Leaning-Tower-Pisa-Italian-bell-towers-slant-reduced-1-57-inches.html and the picture is credited to the original owner.
